Foster on the Park offers 164 units and features 2,141 square feet of ground-floor retail space adjacent to Durham’s Central Park. By collaborating with the City of Durham and Durham Central Park Inc., this 8-story development revitalized a 1.04-acre urban infill site.
Activating the pedestrian realm.
The project involved the creation of a new plaza at the entrance of the park, made possible through the partnership. A section of Roney Street, which traverses the park, has been transformed into a woonerf—a living street that accommodates various modes of travel. This innovative concept not only slows down traffic but also enhances the pedestrian-friendly foot traffic. As a result, a previously underutilized portion of the park is more accessible and inviting.
Local artisans enhance Foster.
Enhancing the overall appeal of the development, a local artist adorned the building’s exterior facing the public park with a custom mural. The engaging artwork adds to the already active greenspace, effectively acting as a second residential courtyard, particularly appealing to urban renters. The retail space is home to the Glass Jug Beer Lab, which provides a direct connection to the transformed park with an outdoor patio and seating, attracting a higher volume of foot traffic to the area.

Residents at Foster on the Park are welcomed into a community that boasts NGBS Bronze Certification. The on-site amenities offer a range of experiences, including a rooftop terrace, a resident library, a yoga room, a fitness center, a community herb garden, a resort-style saltwater pool, and a lounge area equipped with grills and fire pits. The entrance lobby exudes a boutique-hotel-style ambiance, adding to its overall allure.
