The Raleigh Transit Operations facility is a six building campus on a 23 acre site which achieved LEED platinum certification, the highest level of distinction given by the USGBC. The operations facility is the first integrated administration and maintenance facility of its kind in the nation to achieve LEED platinum certification. Sustainable features include geothermal wells, radiant floor heating, reflective roof membranes and light-colored concrete paving, natural light and occupancy sensors, water-saving plumbing fixtures, and rainwater collection cisterns.
The campus consists of the Administration/Operations Building and Poole Road Bus Shelter. The campus is designed with a consistent material palate consisting of precast concrete with glass and metal accents on a steel structure. The tectonics of the structures are emphasized throughout the facility through the expression of the joints, connections, and overlaps. The structure is intended to match its honest technological function with an honest technological aesthetic.
